Message from Chairman

FC-Cubic TRA (Fuel Cell Cutting-Edge Research Center Technology Research Association) was established on April 2, 2010 with cooperation of the fuel cell power-related companies, universities and National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) which advance fuel cell fundamental technology research, and has implemented development activities at AIST Tokyo Waterfront as a central laboratory. In addition, the research system of All Japan was set by participation of Honda R & D, Co., Ltd. and Hino Motors Co., Ltd. since last year both in name and in reality.

Our aim is the fundamental technology research supporting the development of fuel cell and its system in industry. Aiming at measuring and analyzing the various phenomena occurred in the power generating fuel cell inside precisely and leading it to the innovative technology development and materials development, we expanded the development of findings to industry and played the role of providing a bridge between the research institutions of universities, and furthermore we have contributed to the expansion of fuel cell research base in Japan and human resources development as well.

In practical applications, the sales of ENE・FARM residential use fuel cell system that launched sales in 2009 has been increased steadily. The sales of FCV was started by Toyota Motor Corporation in December 2014, and also by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. in March 2016 which is welcomed with big expectation in a market. In addition, METI released a revised version of the Strategic Road Map for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in March 2016, which has clarified the target for the dissemination of 1.4 million ENE・FARM units in 2020, 5.3 million units in 2030, and 40 thousand FCVs by 2010, 200 thousand vehicles by 2025, 800 thousand vehicles by 2030, in total.

The higher-level compatibility between innovative cost reduction and significant improvement of durability and reliability are still required for the full-scale dissemination of ENE・FARM and FCV, and for the use expansion of fuel cells to the desired new field. Therefore, it is considered that it is essential to pursuing further basic research heretofore implemented, and leading to creation of the new materials and concept. FC-Cubic will make further efforts to contribute in industry than ever, toward a new step of expanding with the spread of fuel cells as a lead center of NEDO new 5-year project of “Technology Development for PEFC Highly Utilization”.

Through the spread of fuel cell systems on a global scale with performing as a nucleus of fuel cell research and development acceleration in Japan and as a hub of the research and development interaction around the world, we will continue to devote ourselves to research and development in order to contribute significantly to diversification of the energy, the realization of hydrogen society which contributes to the construction of low-carbon society, at the same time to improve the international competitiveness of our national industry.
It would be appreciated if you could continuously support and cooperate with us.
